The Taliban carried out the death sentence in the mosque.
This past Tuesday, the Taliban government in Afghanistan used a firing squad to kill a man in public. This was the second public killing by the group since it took power in 2021.
The execution was done by firing squad in a town called Sultan Ghazi Baba in the province of Lagman, which is in the middle of the country. The Taliban said that the killing was done in public to send a message to other criminals.
Before the sentence was carried out in front of more than 2,000 people in a mosque, the criminal's name was revealed to be Ajmal son of Naseem. He was found guilty of killing five people, so the sentence was carried out in front of them.
From 1996 to 2001, when the Taliban ruled Afghanistan, people were often put to death. Since the Taliban came back to power, this is the second time someone has been put to death.
Even though the new Taliban government rarely kills people who have been found guilty of crimes, people who steal, commit adultery, or drink alcohol are often beaten.
