Two parties are claiming victory in the Sierra Leone elections

Two days after the election, the counting of ballots for the presidential election in Sierra Leone is still ongoing.

Both the incumbent president Julius Maada Bio and his primary rival Samura Kamara have already declared victory in the election, but it is still unclear who is now in the lead.

The general population was urged by the election observers to remain calm and await the official election results.

There is, however, concern that the results might not be made public right once.

The electoral commission was urged to cool tensions by the European Union delegation by being "honest in collecting the results."

A second round of voting will be held if the winning candidate does not receive 55% of the total votes cast.
