A Tanzanian made beautiful paintings of the city of Dar es Salaam


Ngaira Mandara has created artwork and clothes based on the ideas of Dar es Salaam, the city in which he was raised.

Tanzania's bustling metropolis of Dar es Salaam is well-known for its busy streets in addition to its lovely beaches and vibrant markets.


It's enjoyable to stroll through the city, where the sights, sounds, and fragrances all work together to produce something spectacular.


This is what inspired Ngaira Mandara, an artist, to create works of art based on his knowledge of the bird he was up with.


According to the Tanzania Statistics Authority, Dar es Salaam is home to more than five million people. His artwork and clothing collection depict the way of life in this large city.

"When I decided to become a full-time artist, my main goal was to make sketches on a subject," he said to TRT Afrika.


"I felt motivated to create drawings of things I know or have experienced. From the people I've met to the locations I've been to and humorous incidents that have happened to me.


One of the events included a motorcycle driver who carried three passengers in the back of his vehicle. He is only permitted to transport one person by law.

"I saw a Boda boda (an Acaba guy) sustaining four people one month as I was walking on the route to Makumbusho town for business. I simply had the impulse to sketch what I observed.

"One day, I noticed some individuals boarding a daladala, a compact bus, which also caught my attention. From this point on, I concentrated on the city until it took the form of "The Streets of Dar es Salaam."


Every city has a distinctive culture that makes it stand out from the others, and artists use these characteristics into their works.


"Because this is where I was born and raised, I decided on the city of Dar es Salaam. The city where I grew up has served as inspiration for my artwork, as I have continued to create, he said to TRT Afrika.


Making paintings of the city you grew up in helps you remember your roots and the neighborhood you come from. They believe that the city and its inhabitants have gotten inside of him because of this.


"The things I draw are things I have seen everywhere or things that have happened to me," said Mandara. from the individuals I have met to the locations I have been.


To create clothing, Mandara collaborates with Ally Remtullah, a fashion designer from Tanzania. Anyone from Dar es Salaam would feel that the fashion sense is equally their own.


I've created a number of designs that have impressed tourists to Zanzibar, and I'll keep painting the things I observe as I travel.
