Allowance The Nigerian Government Says It Will Give Doctors Is Late - NARD
The Union of Doctors who are fighting for work in Nigeria said that the government's offer to give them a monthly allowance was taken to the market.
The Nigerian government has agreed to give medical and dental doctors, nursing centers and clinics of the Federal Government N25,000 per month allowance following the strike by the NARD union.
This was revealed in a letter dated July 26, 2023, signed by the Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue and Wages Collection (NISWC), Mr. Ekpo Nta, who stated that, the allowance will be paid from the administrative funds of the ministries.
In an interview with the Hausa section of the Voice of America, the Deputy Secretary of the Association of Professional Doctors NARD, Dr. Nura Umar, said that the allowance is non-existent because their association has asked for an increase of two hundred percent of their salary.
The Secretary of the Union added that they did not accept the increase of twenty-five percent of their salary, looking at the current situation of the cost of living, they want their salary to return to the value of 9 years ago.
Dr. Nura continued to say that this is not one of their reasons for going on strike. He said there are two demands that they think the government can implement in one day, which will make them call off the strike they are in, although they have not specified the demands.
Finally, Dr. Nura Umar called on the government to look into the situation of the health workers and the poor people and do what is necessary.
