Benjamin Mendy signed for Lorient five days after being absolved of rape.
Benjamin Mendy signed a two-year contract with French club Lorient just five days after he was cleared of rape and attempted rape charges.
Remember that the 28-year-old defender was accused of attacking two women with sex at his £4 million home, but a jury at Chester Crown Court cleared him after three hours of deliberation last Friday.
After a court case in January, the France international was found not guilty of six counts of rape and one count of sexual abuse.
Five days after being set free, Mendy signed with Lorient and went back to playing football.
The Ligue 1 team said in a statement on Wednesday that he has signed a two-year deal and will wear the No. 5 shirt.
In a statement, the club said, "FC Lorient is pleased to announce that French international left-back Benjamin Mendy has signed a two-year deal with the club."
"After passing the traditional medical test, 2018 World Champion Benjamin Mendy, who played for Manchester City and won the Premier League four times and the French Ligue 1 championship with Monaco, is joining the Lorient team for the new season.
"The native of Longjumeau will take his first steps at Espace FCL today. He will wear number 5 with the Merlus. Welcome, Benjamin!"
Mendy signed a £100k-a-week deal when he moved from Monaco to Manchester City in 2017 for a price of £52 million. But at the end of June, when his contract was up, he was let go. In August 2021, he stopped playing for City.
His move to Lorient brings him back to France, where he got all of his training before joining City. During his long career, the right-back has played for Le Havre, Marseille, and, as was already said, Monaco. He was one of the best players on the Monaco team that won Ligue 1 in France in 2017.
Mendy cried last week when he was found not guilty. His lawyers said that he will now "rebuild his life"
The emotional star wouldn't say anything outside of court except the Arabic word "Alhamdulillah," which means "Praise be to God."
