FLOOD: There will be a big flood in Abuja
All the homes built on Abuja's waterways will be demolished, according to Shehu Ahmed, chairman of the Federal Capital Development Agency (FCDA).
This was said by Ahmed in a statement he released on Sunday in Abuja.
Such homes, according to him, ought to be demolished since they obstruct the streams that, in times of high water, result in flooding.
"The homes in Trademark are among the homes whose demolition we have seen, and we have been warning the locals about it since last year, but they have all disregarded our warnings.
"We warned the Trademark Houses occupants to leave the area as soon as possible because there is a flood here every year, but they disregarded us.
"FCDA will demolish the Trademark police station but will also set aside room for security guards to continue providing security.
Trademark homes, according to him, were initially constructed without FCDA consent. This explains why flooding occurs there frequently.
There should not be development near waterways in many places, yet people don't pay attention.
