Fuel Price: National Association of Colleges of Education Asks Its Students to Work Two Days a Week

Students in Nigeria are only permitted to work two days a week, according to the National Union of Colleges of Education (COEASU), until the federal government approves a 200 percent pay rise.

This information was provided in a statement that Dr. Smart Olugbeko, national president of COEASU, released on Wednesday in Abuja.

Olugbeko claimed that this choice was made during the union's emergency meeting on Tuesday, taking into account the difficulties the union's members are having getting to work as a result of the surge in oil prices.

He claims that since the federal government stopped providing fuel subsidies two months ago, the cost of a litre of fuel has soared by 250 percent.

This has made the Nigerian people poorer by exacerbating the rise in food and other commodity prices.

 

Olugbeko asserted that, given how expensive life is, the decision to work only two days a week is necessary.
