NFF adds new terms to Jose Peseiro's contract extension
Jose Peseiro is in negotiations for a new contract extension, according to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), which has been confirmed.
The NFF is strapped for cash and is being choked by the burden of Peseiro's $70,000 monthly salary, even though he continues to swear he wants to win the Nations Cup with Nigeria. Peseiro's contract expired last month.
The NFF's Technical Director, Augustine Eguavoen, told reporters after the first FIFA Instructor's Course on Saturday in Abuja, Nigeria, that the Portuguese man will stay in his position until an agreement was struck.
Eguavoen told reporters, "At the moment he is in charge, we are talking internally and we are also offering him requirements.
"Since we are adaptable, it might be appropriate for both parties, so once we find common ground, why not?
"We'd invite him, and once we agree and find a common ground, we'd be flexible, and we also want him to be flexible with us," she said.
He is still the coach of the national team as it is, contract or no contract, because he is a human being.
"We will invite him to serve as our current coach regardless of the contract attached. In the event that we are unable to find common ground, we would also like to shake hands.
The Eagles have been qualified through Peseiro for the January Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
According to a number of reports, if the NFF permits Peseiro to depart, they would search for local successors, with Emmanuel Amunike, Sunday Oliseh, and current assistant coach George Finidi being the front-runners.
