Nigeria plans to vaccinate animals against Anthrax
Nigeria is preparing to immunise its animals against anthrax after the disease broke out on a farm in Suleja, Niger state.
The affected farm, which raises cattle, sheep, and goats, has taken steps to isolate it and monitor it, according to the Nigerian Ministry of Agriculture, which has stated that it has taken the required steps to contain the disease and prevent its spread.
The Nigerian government has been informing its citizens about the disease outbreak in Ghana, Burkina Faso, and Togo since last June. The community has been alerted by the authorities that they are taking precautions because of this.
Dr. Abubakar Sulaiman, a renowned veterinarian in Nigeria, claimed that although the illness does not spread quickly, humans can contract it if they consume meat or come into contact with an afflicted animal's body.
He claimed that immunising the animals as advised by Nigerian authorities is one of the most effective strategies to prevent the sickness.
News of the disease's spread in Ghana, Burkina Faso, and Togo surfaced a few weeks ago.
