Some Nigerians are calling for the release of a slave who has completed 40 days in the hands of DSS

While Abdulrasheed Bawa, the former head of the Economic Anti-Corruption Commission (EFCC), has been detained by the DSS for 40 days, several legal experts in Nigeria are advocating for his release.

Since June 14, the former head of the anti-corruption commission has been residing at what is known as the "Yellow House" secret police headquarters in Abuja. He was detained shortly after President Bola Tinubu had suspended him, and Bawa performed the Eid-el-Kabir prayer there.

SSS officers searched his house and office in the capital after his arrest.

Bawa has not yet been charged with any offences as of June 14, which has infuriated numerous well-known Nigerians. He also has not yet been shown in court.

According to a Daily Trust newspaper investigation, the EFCC chairman was detained due to his involvement in the financial system change that rocked the nation at the start of this year and the agency's dispute with Bello Matawalle, the former governor of Zamfara state.

According to certain informed individuals who spoke to the newspaper, the probe of the temporarily suspended governor of the central bank, Godwin Emefiele, won't be connected to the lengthening of Bawa's arrest.

This past Sunday, a number of people, including lawyers, security professionals, educators, and others, voiced their criticism of the SSS for continuing to hold the director of the anti-corruption agency.

Dayo Akinlaja, a former attorney general of Nigeria and commissioner for justice in the state of Ekiti, questioned why Bawa would remain in custody for such a long time without being brought before a judge.
