Sonko asked the Senegalese to hold a rally before President Sall's speech

The opposition leader in Senegal, Ousmane Sonko, asked the populace to attend a rally the same day that Macky Sall, the president, will make a speech about whether or not he will run for a third term.

Sonko asserted that it is now necessary for them to grant Sall permission to nominate candidates for the 2018 presidential election.

After being found guilty of sexually assaulting a lady, Sonko was given a two-year prison sentence at the beginning of last June. This conviction sparked riots that resulted in the deaths of 16 people.

Sonko said that the government was behind this decision, which the administration has already refuted, and it prevents him from standing for president in the election that would take place the following year.
