The president of Ghana has agreed to keep the job of the country's water minister

The Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources of Ghana has resigned after being accused of concealing $1 million in her Accra home, and President Nana Akufo-Addo has accepted her resignation.

The scandal that broke out in the nation over the finding of the allegedly stolen money in Cecilia Abena Dapaah's home led her to resign from her position.

Despite the economic strain and scarcity of foreign currency in the nation, many residents and anti-corruption activists have questioned the minister's sources of income and why she kept the money in her home.

According to reports in the nation's media on Friday, the minister's home's two maids and three other individuals were charged with taking money and other items from her home in October 2022, including one million dollars, 300,000 euros, millions of sidis, and other items.

Cecilia Abena Dapaah stated in her letter of resignation that she and her husband did not submit the amount of money indicated in the media to the police when they reported the crime.

She continued by saying that she was prepared to work with the authorities to conduct investigations to ascertain the actual facts of the situation.

The house staff was charged with investing the money they stole from the minister's home by purchasing real estate.

Former president and leading opposition contender John Mahama called the action a "scandal."

"Even if she got them through halal means, why would she keep millions of dollars in her house?" he said in one of his tweets.

Parliamentarians are requesting an investigation into the minister's source of funding.
