There has been an outbreak of respiratory disease, diphtheria in Abuja

According to the Ministry of Development of Nigeria's Federal Capital Territory, DIPHTHERIA, a respiratory illness that affects children, has become more common in some parts of the city.

The sickness has already claimed the life of a four-year-old boy, according to Dr. Sadik Abdulrahman, director of the ministry's public health division.

Eight people were tested in the Tungan Wakilia, DEI DEI neighbourhood outside of the city, according to Dr. Sadik, and one person was found to have the illness.

According to the director, all the states in the nation, as well as Abuja, were made aware of the disease epidemic in Lagos, Kano, and Ondo states in January of this year by the Federal Government.

According to Dr. Sadik, the illness causes mortality and has symptoms such as fever, urinary tract infection, swelling in the legs, coughing, and stiff neck.

He said that 400 small and major health centres spread across the city's many neighbourhoods had enough immunisation services thanks to the Ministry of Development of the Federation's capital.

Dr. Yahaya Isa Vatsa, the Chief Secretary of the Health Commission at the first level of the federal city, further clarified the illness by stating that people who have not had the required vaccinations are most at risk of developing the illness.

Other symptoms of the illness, according to Vatsa, include a sore throat, red eyes, and difficulty breathing. He also claimed that the illness can spread from person to person by sneezing, coughing, and similar bodily functions.

Therefore, the Federal Capital City's Ministry of Development has established a plan to immunise all children under the age of fourteen throughout the entire city, and has requested that people call the closest health centres when they see sickness signs.
