There is no prospect of an increase in tuition fees for students at Nigeria's federal government universities, according to the country's presidential palace.

In a statement he released on Wednesday, Dele Alake, the Presidential Advisor on Special Operations, made this disclosure.

The University of Lagos' administration has raised the tuition that students must pay from N19,000 to N190,250 for students studying medicine, and from N140,250 for students enrolled in other degrees.

Many people condemned the measure, which was made at a time when President Tinubu was having difficulty eliminating gasoline subsidies, which sparked some reactions.

The message read, "At the beginning of this week, some media reported that the government has increased tuition fees in federal government universities in this country."

These stories are untrue. We are aware that a few weeks ago, certain colleges announced an increase in the cost of tuition for students.

However, we have established that these additional university fees are for student housing, subsequent registration after the semester, lab fees, and other fees, not for tuition."
