Two foreign fishermen lost in the Atlantic Ocean for five days were rescued in Bayelsa

Antonio Sabino and Osorio Pires, two fishermen from Neves in SaôTom and Principe who had supposedly been missing in the Atlantic Ocean for five days, have been found safe and well in the Brass Council Area of Bayelsa State.

The Portuguese-speaking, traumatized men were reportedly saved by a fishing vessel in the Gulf of Guinea and given to an Okpoama fisherman on Brass' Atlantic coast, who brought them ashore.

The guys were fed and clothed before being given to the Police for further action, according to Chief Munalayefa William-Sinte, the chairman of the Okpoama Kingdom Security Committee. The men appeared hungry and fragile.

He claimed that although the fishermen were clearly anxious, they were made to feel better by using sign language before being turned over to the police because it was unable to converse with them due to the language barrier.

The fisherman, who is from Ilaje in Ondo State but lives in Okpoama, has been gone for more than a week, and his coworkers have been combing the ocean for days, according to Chief Sinte.

Two male fishermen's remains, in an advanced state of decomposition, were discovered aboard a fishing boat that had drifted ashore in Okpoama from Sa Tom and Principe in 2019, according to a local source.

When reached, SP Asinim Bustwat, a spokeswoman for the state police command, verified the development.

He stated: "Two fishermen who were saved by a Captain of a fishing trawler at 50 nautical miles off the coast of the Atlantic Ocean on July 2, 2023, have been put into arrest by the Divisional Police Officer of Okpoama Division, Brass Local Government Area.

"The two fishermen from Neves, SaôTom, and Principe, Antonio Sabino'm' 52 and Osorio Pires'm' 41, became stranded in the Atlantic Ocean for five days before being found by a vessel.

In an effort to reconnect them with their families, the police authorities had made contact with a coast guard officer from Saô Tom and Principe.
