ECOWAS will hold another conference on the Niger coup
The Organization of African Nations (ECOWAS) has scheduled a meeting of its leaders on Thursday in Abuja to review the situation in the Republic of Niger in relation to the military coup.
The statement issued by the organization today said that the leaders of the countries from the region will review the diplomatic measures taken and the situation up to this point.
As long as it is not forgotten, the leader of the group, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, sent a delegation led by the former president of Nigeria, General Abdusalami Abubakar to Niger, along with another delegation led by Ambassador Babagana Kingibe who visited Libya and Algeria.
The need to use military force against the soldiers who carried out the coup continues to face resistance from many quarters, including the Nigerian Senate which refuses to accept the request because of its effects on civilians.
The council suggested continuing to take diplomatic measures to solve the problem and return the civilian government to the throne.
