FAMILY EMPOWERMENT SCHOLARSHIP
On March 27, 2023, Governor Ron DeSantis signed House Bill (HB) 1 into law. This bill gives all Florida students more choices when it comes to schools. The bill gets rid of the limits on who can get the Family Empowerment Scholarship Educational Options based on their income starting with the 2023–2024 school year. HB 1 also raises the yearly scholarship cap growth for the Family Empowerment Scholarship for Students with Unique Abilities from 1% to 3% to deal with high demand and wait lists.

Family Empowerment Scholarship for Educational Choices
All K–12 students have more educational choices thanks to this part of the scholarship eligibility, such as going to a private school that is a participant. Families apply through one of the approved scholarship funding organisations (SFO), which are in charge of figuring out how much money to give out and giving it out. FES EO also gives qualified students and their families the chance to get a $750 scholarship to help pay for transport to a public school other than the one the student was assigned to.

This part of the Family Empowerment Scholarship Programme is meant to give families of students with challenges, even if they are only 3 years old, access to more educational opportunities. Families have the option of enrolling their student in a different public school or taking advantage of the chance to get their student an education savings account (ESA). With an ESA, parents don't have to send their child to a public school. Instead, they get a deposit from the government into a savings account that has limited but multiple uses. An ESA can pay for things like private school tuition and fees, but it can also be used to pay for online learning programmes, private coaching, community college costs, college costs, and other approved customised learning services and materials. Families can apply to participate in FES UA and renew their participation every year through one of the approved SFOs. It is the job of the approved SFOs to determine eligibility, award and distribute funds to eligible student accounts, and approve eligible expenditures.
