 Germany urged its citizens to accept the offer made by France to take them from Niger


The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany has asked its citizens in Niger to accept the offer made by the French authorities to board the planes that will take people away on Tuesday, days after the army seized power in the West African country.


"We can confirm that the offer of our ally France, to the best of their ability, to take German citizens on their planes from Niger," the ministry said in a statement, adding that it advised " all the Germans in Yamai should agree to that



Niger's borders have already been closed to commercial flights after the overthrow of the government of President Mohamed Bazoum and his democratically elected government last Wednesday.


France plans to evacuate hundreds of French and Europeans from Niger within the next 24 hours. The German government said on Monday that it is not ready to evacuate its citizens based on the current situation.


The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany said on Monday that it believes that there are less than 100 German citizens currently in Niger, apart from those who are in the country as part of the Bundeswehr.
