 Imran Khan was sentenced to three years in prison

The former prime minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, was sentenced to three years in prison, on charges of corruption.

The court found Mr. Khan guilty of not declaring the money he earned after selling the gifts given to him during his tenure as prime minister.

Mr Khan denied the allegations and said he would appeal the verdict.

In a tweet, Mr Khan told his supporters that "I have only one option left, so don't sit quietly at home."

The 70-year-old Khan was elected as the prime minister of Pakistan in 2018, but he was removed last year after being voted down for his failure in the country's military.

Since his impeachment, Mr. Khan has been facing more than 100 allegations, which he says are politically motivated.

Reports say that Mr. Khan sold gifts worth about $500,000, including luxury watches and jewelry.

While handing down the verdict, Chief Justice Humayun Dilawar said that Mr. Khan's dishonesty made the case clear.

Mr. Khan's lawyer, Intazar Hussain Panjutha, told the BBC that the case was concluded in a "court that cannot answer its name, where the suspect was not given the opportunity to defend himself".
