Italy asked Ecowas to extend the deadline it gave to the Niger army
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italy, called on the ECOWAS group to extend the deadline given to the Niger army to return power to the deposed president, Mohamed Bazoum.
"The only way to go is through diplomacy. I hope ECOWAS will extend the amount it has drawn from Niger," said Antonio Tajani, the Italian foreign secretary.
On Sunday afternoon, Niger's military leaders closed the country's airspace after the ECOWAS mission was fulfilled.
As a result of this decision, all foreign flights flying through the country's airspace have to change their route or return to their country of origin.
The soldiers said that the two ECOWAS countries have started planning to attack Niger, but they did not provide evidence to prove this.
ECOWAS has not issued any statement since the deadline for the withdrawal of troops.
