Niger soldiers were killed in an ambush
The Ministry of Defense of Niger said that some fighters killed 17 soldiers.
Some 20 soldiers were also wounded in the ambush by the militants in the Tillabéri region near the Niger-Burkina Faso border.
The Niger army said they killed more than 100 assailants while they were trying to escape from the place where they attacked.
The statement issued by the country's government said: "The prompt action taken by our forces on the ground and on the ground helped to harm the attackers and defeat them."
The government sent a message of condolence to the families of the victims.
This is the seventh time that the forces of Niger have been attacked since the military coup three weeks ago.
