Russia warns Ecowas against sending troops to Niger
Russia has warned the Ecowas group about taking military action that it says it will take against the soldiers who staged a coup in Niger.
She says that the decision may lead to a crisis that will not be seen for a long time.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia on Friday, it warned West African countries not to send troops to Niger.
The statement said, "We believe that the military action will not solve the problem of Niger, instead the situation will lead to a serious conflict, the date of which is not known, and the situation in the Sahel region will be complicated again".
Ecowas security chiefs are planning a meeting on Saturday to plan how to prepare the military.
On Friday, the Ecowas group agreed to establish a 'permanent force' in preparation for taking military action against the Niger army.
Already, the president of Ivory Coast, Alassane Ouattara, said that his country will send about 1,000 soldiers who will join the ranks of other military forces who will be in the plan to deploy to Niger.
The United States, France and the European Union have already supported the decision taken by the Ecowas group to return the elected president Mohamed Bazoum to power.
On Friday, the supporters of the Niger army, holding the Russian flag, held a demonstration in the compound of the French Embassy in Yamai.
