Some new attacks in Tilabery state of the Republic of Niger hours after the killing of 17 security forces in the area affected by terrorist activities, have caused the death of civilians, what analysts say as the magnitude of the security problem that afflicts the Sahel countries.


NIAMEY, NIGER - Reports from Tilabery state that from around six o'clock in the evening on Tuesday until the early hours of Wednesday morning, some people armed with guns attacked civilians in several villages of Dessa and Mehanna circles, the incident it caused the death of at least 31 people according to some sources.


A resident of the area, who asked to remain anonymous for security reasons, expressed concern over the events that have been happening in recent days.


He called on the authorities to look into the situation with an objective eye, and asked the community to cooperate with the security forces in efforts to fight the growing terrorist crisis.


In the progress of the operation they launched, the gunmen, who are believed to be IS fighters, attacked the rural villages of Anzourou, which include Sarakoira, Theim, Farie, Bissakire, Bangoutande and Bibiyergou, where they 555 small animals and 201 cattle were driven away, but not a single life was lost according to a different source.


The deterioration of the security situation is one of the reasons that the military said they relied on to overthrow the government of Mohamed Bazoum.


On this, the head of the charity organization Action For Humanity, Zirbine Abass, reminded the soldiers of the coup d'état who suffered from this problem.

So far, the national security authorities have not given any explanation regarding these new attacks, and the attempts to hear from the authorities in the affected local governments have failed due to some reasons related to the work plan, they said.


Before these attacks that caused the destruction of civilians, the Ministry of Defense of Niger announced the death of 17 soldiers in the village of Koutougou near the border of the country with Burkina Faso, in an ambush by terrorists. on Tuesday 15th of August 2023.
