The Supreme Court of India has stayed the sentence against Rahul Gandhi
India's Supreme Court has stayed the execution of opposition leader Rahul Gandhi, who was previously found guilty of insulting Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The court sentenced him to two years in prison in March for the words he uttered about the name of the country's prime minister's father, when he was speaking at a campaign campaign in 2019.
After the court decision, Mr Gandhi was suspended from the parliament.
The verdict given by the Supreme Court on Friday will allow him to return to parliament and run for office in next year's elections.
The Supreme Court pointed out that the reasons given by the judge who sentenced Mr Gandhi to two years were not convincing.
The court also drew Gandhi's attention to guarding his words.
