 The United Nations has warned about the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Republic of Congo

The United Nations has expressed concern over the deterioration of humanitarian activities in the three provinces of the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, where approximately 3.3 million people have been displaced since March 2022.

Militants and rebel groups have plagued the eastern parts of the Democratic Republic of the Congo for decades, since the outbreak of conflict in the region in 1990.

The United Nations has warned that, in order to be able to meet the needs of people affected by the violence in the region, humanitarian workers need more than 1.5 billion dollars to help them.

The M23 rebels have seized control of much of North Kivu, since they took up arms at the end of 2021, after years of attacking the region.
