Tinubu Wrote A Letter Seeking Parliament's Approval To Deploy Soldiers To The Republic Of Niger
President Bola Tinubu has written a letter to the Senate asking for confirmation of the decision made by ECOWAS on the current situation in the Republic of Niger.
In the letter that was read in the senate chamber, Tinubu pointed out that following the political situation in the Republic of Niger that led to the overthrow of its president, the ECOWAS group condemned the coup as a whole and resolved to seek the return of democratically elected government.
He also added that, in an effort to restore peace, the ECOWAS group, in a statement it issued, decided to close and monitor the international borders of the Republic of Niger and cut off electricity to the country.
Other recommendations include gathering international support to implement the provisions of the ECOWAS declaration and call for the banning of commercial and special flights in and out of the Republic of Niger.
It includes the prohibition of goods being transported to Niger, especially from Lagos and the eastern port, and to raise awareness among Nigerians and Nigeriens about the necessity of these measures, especially through social media.
In the end, the president asked the members of parliament to look into the need to send the Army to enforce the rule of law for the soldiers in Niger if they disobeyed.
