TikTok has been banned in Senegal
The social media platform TikTok has been banned in Senegal for allegedly using it to incite conflict.
The Minister of Communications, Moussa Bocar, said that the platform has become a site used by those who want to spread slanderous and divisive words to achieve their goals.
The decision to ban TikTok was taken days after the arrest of the country's opposition leader, Ousmane Sonko, where he is accused of inciting protesters and other crimes.
Three people were killed in the city of Ziguinchor, the city led by Ousmane Sonko as mayor.
Authorities in the country have also temporarily cut off internet connections in recent weeks.
