Women's soccer: Sweden beats USA in World Cup
Defending champion USA was eliminated from the Women's World Cup after Sweden beat Sweden 5-4 in penalty kicks after the game ended in a scoreless draw.
The USA, winners of the last two tournaments, outplayed Sweden in the 120th minute of the match but Swedish goalkeeper Zecira Musovic made a great effort to prevent the goal.
In the penalty shootout, Lina Hurtig scored the last goal for Sweden, while American goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher stopped the ball from entering the net.
This is the first time the United States has failed to reach the semifinals of the Women's World Cup.
Sweden will now face Japan in the semi-final on Friday, August 11.
