At least 70 people died while many others were injured in a fire that broke out in the city of Johannesburg, South Africa early this Thursday morning.


Firefighters who responded to the building where the fire broke out, said that so far the bodies of 73 people have been recovered and 43 people who were burned were immediately transferred to the hospital for treatment.


The spokesperson of the Johannesburg Emergency Management Agency, Robert Mulaudzi, said that the fire broke out this Thursday morning and so far the cause has not been identified.


According to the official, the fire destroyed a lot of property and it started in high-rise buildings in the middle of the city in addition to more than 200 people affected.


A resident of the area told reporters that until now, the search for some of the missing persons is continuing and there is a possibility of finding more bodies, noting that the building contains hundreds of people.
