After Horatio got into a fight with Warren Vincentz, a board member for Newark Cemetery, the two made headlines in 2016. Karima was working on the 'Clean up Woodland Cemetery' campaign in Newark at the time, which she was strongly opposed to by the cemetery board. The board's decision-making body rejected Karima's request for financial support. But she was determined to make the cemetery presentable so that it could be put to other uses. Karima and Warren Vincentz got into a fight over it because she thought he was acting inappropriately with her. She informed her partner and the police about the occurrence right away.

Before the police arrived, Horatio tried to take pictures of the board member's license plate, which led to an argument between the two.
