 Efforts are being made to identify the bodies of people who overturned in boats in Niger state

Authorities in Niger state are continuing to investigate the other bodies that are believed to be still in the water after a boat capsized on Sunday.

The accident happened in Gbajibo area of Mokwa Local Government in Niger State in the north of Nigeria.

Malam Jibrin Abdullahi Murege is the Chairman of Mokwa Local Government who said that so far 26 people have died, while more than 40 people have been rescued, out of about 100 people in the plane.

The authorities said that there were only farmers and small children in the plane, and they are continuing to investigate to make sure that the number of people who were reported to be in the plane has been identified.

The accident happened as a result of a piece of ice that the ship hit in the middle of the water, which the authorities said had been cut in the past but the winter caused it to grow and it could not be seen.

Overturning of a boat in Niger state is not a strange thing, even three months ago there was a similar overturning of a boat carrying more than 100 people who were on their way back from a holiday home.

In a similar story, a boat overturned in Adamawa state in northeastern Nigeria carrying 23 people on Friday.

According to reports, 15 people died, most of whom were farmers and businessmen with small children.

The accident happened on their way to Yola city from Rugange village in Yola South Local Government.

Four bodies were found at the time of the incident, thanks to rescue workers and traditional swimmers.

Someone who witnessed the incident said that it was a strong wind that caused the plane to fall.
