Nigeria needs 28 million houses to fill our gap - Kashim Shettima

Nigeria needs 21 trillion naira to fill the gap in the housing sector, despite the efforts of three levels of government.

The Vice President of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima, said this in Sokoto, during the inauguration ceremony of the construction of 500 housing units developed by the state government.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) quoted Kashim Shettima as praising Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto for his efforts in addressing the housing needs of the people of the state. He also pointed out that the housing gap in Nigeria is a major challenge .

"Nigeria has a housing deficit of 28 million and we will need 21 trillion naira to meet the needs of the houses we have. This action taken by the governor is highly commendable and deserves to be emulated by other state governments.

Earlier, the governor stated that the Sokoto state government is building the houses for the workers, and they will be sold to them once the project is completed on a tenant-to-own basis.
