Today, the Senate will carry out the task of identifying Olayemi Cardoso, the former CEO of Citi Bank in Nigeria as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.

In addition, four other people will be selected as deputy governors of the Central Bank of Nigeria, to join forces with Cardoso to manage the bank's affairs in the next five years.

In a statement issued by the press office of the President of the Senate, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, the House will review all the names submitted after it returns from its annual recess.

The announcement added that, "The Senate of the Federation of Nigeria will resume its session on Tuesday, September 26. We will analyze the assessment of Dr. Cardoso in the whole committee."

"Four deputy governors including Emem Nnana Usoro, Muhammad Sani Abdullahi Dattijo, Philip Ikeazor and Dr. Bala M. Bello will also be evaluated."

On September 15, President Tinubu approved the appointment of Cardoso as the new governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

He also approved the appointment of four deputy governors for a period of five years each at the first level, until the Senate of the Federation of Nigeria approves them.
