ANO: Kano Government Responds to Court Order to Pay 30 Billion Naira Compensation to Traders Who Lost Their Shops
The Kano state government has responded to the decision of the Federal High Court which ordered the government to pay 30 billion naira compensation to the businessmen who demolished shops and buildings near the main Eid Mosque in Kano about three months ago.
A group of businessmen who were affected by the Kano government's crackdown have approached the Federal High Court of Kano to complain about the situation.
The governor of the state, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has ordered the demolition of all the buildings and shops around the Eid Field in Kano, saying that the previous government approved the illegal construction. and in fact the places were sold to the traders in an illegal way.
However, in the decision of the Federal High Court in Kano on Friday, under the leadership of Samuel Amobeda, it ordered the government of Kano to pay the traders thirty thousand million naira compensation for destroying their property, without following the laws of the country.
Justice Samuel Amobeda said the decision of the Kano government is a violation of the right of businessmen to own property and conduct business which was given to them by the Constitution of the country.
However, the government responded to this judgment of the Federal High Court. Barr HARUNA Isa Dederi is the Commissioner of Justice and Chief Attorney of Kano. "Since the matter was brought before the court, we have been quick, we have said that it does not have jurisdiction to hear the case and the version that was followed and the case was presented is not a version that is accepted by law and justice, so they will appeal and we have a good hope that the Court of Appeal will take a careful look at the evidence that we will present to it".
According to him, the facts and evidence used by the court are weak, so they should not be considered.
Apart from the government of Kano, the businessmen of Filin Idi sued the Nigerian Police and the Civil Defense because the demolition work was carried out under the protection and support of their officers.
