Customs will distribute the confiscated food items to the public
The Nigerian Customs Service has announced its plan to distribute the food it has seized to the citizens in order to reduce the hardships they are currently facing.
The agency said that the food will be distributed after it has been verified that they are not harmful to human health.
Thousands of Nigerians have protested in the streets against the poor condition and high cost of consumer goods in the country.
It is on this basis that on Tuesday, the head of the agency, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, announced their plan not to distribute the seized food items to Nigerians.
The Spokesperson of the Customs Service, Abdullahi Maiwada, announced that the action is in line with the intention of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to distribute food.
According to PUBLICITÉA, the action is urgent and its adoption is important in achieving food security in Nigeria and curbing the effects of its shortage on citizens.
"The methods to be followed in the distribution of the goods will be announced by the office of the commission throughout Nigeria, in order to ensure justice and to go back to ensure that the benefit reaches those who need it the most," he said.
