Nigeria: There is a protest against the cost of living in Ibadan
Thousands of people took to the streets of Ibadan, Oyo State in the southwest of Nigeria to express their anger at the high cost of living in Nigeria.
The protest started from the Mokola area of the city, where the marchers converged.
This comes after similar demonstrations in Kano and Niger states, where many people came out to complain about the problem of rising prices of consumer goods.
The nation in Nigeria is suffering from the problem of rising consumer goods since the President of the country, Bola Tinubu announced the withdrawal of fuel subsidies on May 29, 2023, shortly after his inauguration as President.
Since that time, the prices of some commodities, food and transportation have increased, which has put the people of the country in a difficult situation.
Earlier, the Nigerian Police Force in Oyo State warned the protestors to avoid anything that would disturb the community and stated that it will tighten security to ensure that the situation does not turn into a riot.
The Nigerian government has declared that it is doing everything necessary to ease the pressure of life for the community, where it has announced a program to support food and consumer goods for the community.
