The Kenyan police have recaptured the man wanted by the United States who is suspected of murder who escaped from their custody as reported by the country's media.

American authorities are looking for 41-year-old Kelvin Kangethe on suspicion of murdering his girlfriend in Boston last October.

However, Kangethe did not say a word about the allegations.

He is being held in Kenya pending a decision on whether to extradite him to the United States.

Last week he escaped from the police station in Nairobi, the capital of the country, where he is being detained.

But Nairobi police chief Adamson Bungei said the suspect was recaptured on Tuesday night in Ngong - on the outskirts of the capital - after a five-day manhunt.

"We have arrested him again. He is in custody and we are grateful to all those who helped in this case," Bungei told The Star website.

The Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI) said in a message posted on the X social media that the suspect was arrested following a "major operation led by the Intelligence Agency".

He was later taken to Nairobi under strict security measures before his arraignment.
