The SOS rescue ship in the Mediterranean Sea picked up the remains of 25 people who survived.

The men told the rescuers that they came from Zawiya on the coast of Libya seven days ago.

The ship's engine had a problem three days after the ship took off and it was floating on the water with no control and no food or drink.

Among those who died were women and at least one child.

The SOS Méditerranée aid group said on Wednesday that the rescue team found the ship after using binoculars and planned to evacuate the people in cooperation with the Italian coast guard.

She also added that the people were found in serious condition and are now under medical care.

The group added that the helicopter came to take two people who lost consciousness from among the patients because they were not properly cared for.

Last week, the International Organization for Migration and Migration (IOM) said that the year 2023 will be the year with the highest number of deaths of migrants in ten years, where at least 8,565 people died in migration routes around the world.

The IOM report shows that the Mediterranean route remains the most dangerous route with at least 3,129 deaths in 2023.
