 A senior Nigerian politician has been arrested in the UK on charges of organ trafficking.

His arrest has sparked controversy both within and outside Nigeria, with senior politicians, including senators, speaking out.

The trial has been ongoing for a long time, with authorities holding Ekweremadu in custody in London.

In May 2023, a British court sentenced the wealthy former deputy president of the Nigerian Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, and his roommate to nine years in prison after finding him guilty of attempting to traffic in human organs.

He was arrested in June 2022 with his roommate at Heathrow Airport in London on suspicion of organ trafficking.

The court found the former Mr. Ekweremadu and his roommate guilty of conspiring to smuggle a young man so that his kidney could be removed and transplanted into their sick daughter.
