The northern elders demanded that Tinubu reinstate Fubara

The Northern Elders Association has expressed its displeasure over the suspension of the Rivers state governor and the state assembly by Nigerian President Bola Tinubu.

In a statement issued by the group's spokesperson, Professor Abubakar Jika, he called on Tinubu to immediately return the governor and his deputy to their duties.

The group said that although Section 305 allows the president to declare a state of emergency, "there is no reason to declare the state of emergency in Rivers State now," as Daily Trust reported.

"The president must find ways to resolve the political crisis in Rivers state, and stop the suspension of the governor, his deputy and the state assembly to ensure the existence of democracy and justice."

The group also warned Tinubu to keep a close watch to ensure that he sees the conflicts that are being fought in other states, "like Kano which is suffering from the problem of the kingdom conflict, they have not been spared."
