The world's most famous spy is dead

One of the world's most important spies during the Cold War, Oleg Gordievsky died at the age of 86, at his home in England.

Oleg worked for the British intelligence agency MI6 for 11 years while at the same time as an employee of the Soviet Union's secret service (KGB) - where he passed a wealth of intelligence to the UK.

He has been credited with trying to change the course of the Cold War through the intelligence he provided -- which is believed to have helped prevent a nuclear war.

Gordievsky was repatriated to the UK in 1985, when his superiors in the Soviet Union's intelligence service began to suspect him, and he was smuggled back to the UK.
