The shooting that claimed the lives of two children, ages eight and ten, injured eighteen people, including twelve-year-old Sophia Forchas.

A GoFundMe campaign claims that the mother of a 12-year-old girl who was hurt in a shooting at the Annunciation Catholic Church in South Minneapolis on Wednesday morning was employed in the hospital's intensive care unit when her daughter was taken.

Sophia Forchas is one of 18 people hurt at the church where an attacker, identified by authorities as 23-year-old Robin Westman, opened fire through the windows during morning Mass on August 27, killing an 8-year-old and a 10-year-old, according to the fundraiser and a parish official.

Fifteen of those injured are children. Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara said all are expected to survive. Three parishioners in their eighties were also injured. According to police, Westman was armed with a rifle, shotgun, and pistol.

According to the GoFundMe campaign, Sophia and her younger brother attended the church's pre-kindergarten through eighth-grade school. Sophia was shot during the attack and suffered critical injuries, according to the campaign.

According to the fundraiser, Sophia's mother is a pediatric critical care nurse who arrived at work "without knowing that her children's school had been attacked and that her daughter had been critically injured."

According to the GoFundMe, Sophia is recuperating in the intensive care unit after undergoing emergency surgery.

The campaign claims, "She is strong, and she is not alone, but her road ahead will be long, uncertain, and extremely difficult."

According to the fundraiser, Sophia's brother was also inside the school when the shooting occurred.

Even though he was not hurt physically, it states that no child should ever have to go through the trauma of seeing such a horrible incident and knowing that his sister was seriously hurt.

In a statement posted on the church's Facebook page on Wednesday, Father Timothy Sas of St. Mary's Greek Orthodox Church in Minneapolis confirmed that Sophia, a seventh-grader, had received treatment at Hennepin County Medical Center. He claimed to have spent "a good portion of the day" with Sophia's family at the hospital.

Along with her multigenerational extended family, who are loyal members of our congregation, Sophia was born and raised in our St. Mary's parish, fully engaged in church life," Sas wrote in the statement.

Sophia's mother works in the pediatric intensive care unit, where the girl is in critical condition, according to Hennepin Healthcare, which responded to a question. Thomas Forchas, Sophia's father, is listed as a co-organizer of the campaign. A request for an interview did not get a response right away. When contacted by PEOPLE on Thursday, the husband of the GoFundMe campaign organizer said Sophia's parents also did not want to speak in public and declined to comment.

As of early Thursday afternoon, the GoFundMe has raised over $200,000. According to the fundraiser, the funds will be used for Sophia's medical treatment and recuperation, as well as trauma counseling for both her and her brother, among other costs.
