 American Idol ratings soar to over 5m viewers despite fans’ demands Carrie Underwood be fired from show

The top three competitors were chosen during American Idol's Disney week.

The episode on Sunday, May 11 drew a massive 5,272,000 viewers, one of the season's best totals.

The highest-rated episode, a debut special, aired on March 2nd and received 5,905,000 viewers.

CARRIE BACKLASH.

Carrie was chastised during the Monday, May 12 episode for her criticism of Jamal Roberts, who is in the Top 3.


Jamal, 27, sang Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell's classic "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" for Disney Night.

Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie gave him a standing ovation after he finished the performance, but Carrie stayed seated.

She said, "I feel like you wasted a great opportunity to move around and entertain.

"We are nearing the conclusion here; it is time to pull out all the stops.

"And we know you've got it. So you're drawing us in with more than just your voice.

"Put everything of yourself into it. Let's go.

Fans, however, disagreed and demanded her dismissal after her remark.

One complained, "You were out of line about Jamal tonight. Everyone else can stand motionless, but he must move!! Really?"

A second wrote, "You know your comment about Jamal was unfair. Breanna stands stationary throughout the performance, as does John. What was the difference. That's why the following time he performed, the audience erupted in cheers.
