Klum returns to host the 21 st season of the popular fashion competition with star judges coming back in the forms of Nina Garcia and Christian Siriano, the latter joins first-time judge Law Roach.
It is such a good feeling being here again. It almost seems I never left," Klum told PEOPLE in an exclusive cover story just before her comeback on July 31. Back in its inception, I was the one selling this concept to various television stations. They were saying, "Why would we ever want to watch a program that is about people sewing?" I needed to come up with an explanation on why it is exciting since this is what is interesting in the fashion industry.
When I see something great, I can be out of control too like beautiful clothing or an innovative thing being done by someone. I say things like, "Where did you come up with that?" She adds, "I still marvel at people and their abilities."
Since 2004 Klum also hosts and judges Project Runway. She remained in the show until the 16th season during which she left. She has hosted the German version of America's next top model all 20 seasons. She is a host, judge and co-producer. There is always something good about having a new person look at things. The reason it is so more about these designers that you fall in love with and know a little bit about them, but then when someone new comes in and throws out something about them it, it kind of makes you think of them in a different way.
According to Klum, the show does not feel like a job at all at the end of the day. These clever designers are ever present with glittering eyes. They are eager to establish themselves in this business and this is their opportunity. That was always something I loved to be a part of. Tim Gunn who hosted the show with Klum in her very first season is definitely very much absent in Project Runway stage. The reason why Gunn has not been invited back to season 21 is because he was not asked initially and it took Klum to eventually persuade him only to turn down a relatively minor role in the show.
Naturally, I miss him since he was my television husband and it all began with him. We were this weird couple that people would want to watch, and then 17 years later, we had so many good episodes together. Well, I am going to miss him, no doubt.
