In Dallas parking lot, woman shot and killed over 'Thank You' row

It is said that one woman was shot and killed because she asked another woman to say "thank you."

Simpson, who was 41 years old, was killed in the Dallas parking lot outside of a PetSmart on Tuesday, October 7. A news release from the Dallas Police Department says that 22-year-old Keona Zachyua Hampton has been charged with murder for reportedly shooting Simpson several times. WFAA says that the fatal fight happened after Simpson held the door open for Hampton as they were both leaving a Five Below shop. According to the arrest statement seen by CBS News, Hampton and Simpson got into a verbal argument when Hampton didn't thank Simpson.

The news source says Simpson and her daughter drove to the PetSmart store in the shopping centre. They told the workers that Hampton was going to be following them. Police say Hampton then fought with the witness inside PetSmart, left the store, and came back minutes later.

Hampton and Simpson then got into another fight inside PetSmart. The store staff told all three of them to leave. Fox 4 reported that a witness who said she was an ER nurse said, "The shooter was telling them to come outside." Let's deal with this outside. Let's fight outside. The mother and daughter just told her to leave.

Hampton is said to have thrown a drink bottle at Simpson's car in the parking lot after they left the store. The ER nurse told the outlet, "The mother and daughter tried to get in the car to calm down, but the woman wouldn't have it."

After that, Simpson and Hampton kept fighting, which turned into a fight. According to CBS News, Simpson's daughter told cops that her father hit Hampton several times and yelled at her to leave. Around 1 p.m., police were told that there had been a shooting in the parking lot. CBS News says that after Dallas Fire-Rescue took Simpson to Methodist Central Hospital, she was declared dead.

The police found and arrested Hampton hours later, according to the DPD news statement. Per the statement, she was then arrested and told police that she and Simpson had a verbal argument, as reported by CBS News.

As stated in the statement, Hampton told police that she was "just trying to get Simpson away from her."

He was taken to the Dallas County Jail. Hampton's jail records did not show that a bond had been set.

DPD says the probe is still going on.
