Big Brother Naija has become Africa's biggest reality TV show since its first season in 2006. It has made famous people, launched careers, and brought together millions of fans across the continent. After a long break, the reality TV show came back in 2017. In every season, there has been tough competition, emotional moments, and fierce fan groups fighting to keep their favourites in the house.
But when it comes to fan support, not every winner is the same. When they won their season, some housemates were first in the polls. Between season 1 and season 10, Big Brother Naija has given us winners who have built a community that we still use today.
Since 2006 to 2025, Katung, Efe, Miracle, Mercy Eke, Laycon, Whitemoney, Phyna, Ilebaye, Kellyrae, and Imisi have been the winners of Big Brother Naija.
There are generations of fans who saw themselves in each winner, because the show wouldn't be the same without them. For Big Brother Naija to happen, there would have to be housemates and fans. Fans don't really have an effect on the housemates if they don't vote. The choices of the fans are what keep the housemates there until one of them wins. Some housemates won by very small amounts of votes, while others won by very large amounts.
While BBNaija votes started out as SMS messages, they have changed over time thanks to technology. Fans now have more ways to show their support, such as through mobile apps and online voting sites. At this point in time, social media campaigns, hashtags, and support from influential people all play a big part in deciding who wins the big prize.
