Police in Kano State have arrested a 25-year-old man accused of killing an 80-year-old woman by throwing her into a well after beating her.

 Naziru Magaji, a resident of Kununu Yalwa Danziyal village in Rimin Gado Local Government Area of ​​Kano State, is accused of sexually assaulting Habiba Abubakar, after he was intoxicated.

 Daily Trust reports that the arrest was confirmed by the spokesperson of the force, DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, in a statement on Friday.  A 25-year-old resident of Kununu Yalwan Danziyal village in Rimin Gado Local Government Area of ​​Kano State has beaten up his sister.  Habiba Abubakar, all 80 years old, then threw her into a well.

 Upon hearing the news, Kano State Commissioner of Police, Sama'ila Shuaibu Dikko, directed officers led by CSP Isyaku Mustapha and the Tofa Police to go there.

 "When they arrived, they pulled the woman out of the well and rushed her to the Tofa General Hospital, where doctors examined her and confirmed her death.

 "Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had a mental illness, and had to undergo drug and alcohol abuse before committing the crime," the statement said.

 He said the state commissioner of police had already directed the matter to be referred to the state's Criminal Investigation Department.

 He said once the department completes its investigation the accused will be arraigned in court to reap what he has sown.
