The pilot who threatened to crash into a Mississippi Walmart has landed safely
Local authorities said Saturday that the pilot who threatened to crash a small plane into a Walmart in Tupelo, Mississippi, has landed safely.
Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves wrote on Twitter that he was glad the problem had been solved and that no one had been hurt. The plane landed in a field north of the city. An official with the Benton County sheriff's office told the Associated Press that the pilot has been taken into police custody.
Police officials said they found out about the threat for the first time around 5 a.m. local time, when the pilot told emergency workers what he or she planned to do. At the time, the plane, which police think might be a King Air, was flying over the northeast part of Mississippi.
"The pilot called 911 and said he was going to crash on purpose into the Wal-Mart on West Main," police said. People were told to stay away from the area near the local Walmart and Dodges' convenience store until the problem is fixed.

Local authorities didn't say anything about who the pilot was or what he was trying to do, but they did say that they had talked to the aviator directly.
