Ibrahim Traore has been sworn in as Burkina Faso's interim president, weeks after Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba was ousted in a coup.
In a ceremony held on Friday, Traore pledged his support for the transition to elections to be held in July 2024 as he was sworn in in the capital Ouagadougou under tight security.
After taking the oath, Traore, dressed in military uniform and a brown scarf, said: "We are facing unprecedented security and humanitarian crisis. He added that "Our goal is to recover the areas occupied by these terrorist groups because Burkina is in danger".
Traore led the country's junior officers on September 30 in the second coup in eight months in the West African country.
Damiba only seized power in January, forcing Burkina Faso's last elected president, Roch Marc Christian Kabore.
The country of Burkina Faso has experienced the deterioration of political affairs which has resulted in the failure to end the rebellion that has been going on for seven years and has resulted in the death of thousands of people and the expulsion of nearly two million people from their homes.
