CBN refutes a report that was posted on Aisha Buhari's Instagram profile in the new naira.
A fake press statement that was posted on Aisha Buhari's Instagram profile was refuted by the Central Bank of Nigeria.
According to the press release posted on Aisha's Facebook on Tuesday, the old N500 and N1000 notes should continue to be valid for payment over the next 70 days, or until May 1, 2023.
The CBN released a different release to refute the information, calling Aisha's post "false news."
For the avoidance of doubt, the CBN has been instructed to ONLY reproduce and circulation the old N200 banknotes, and this is scheduled to circulate as legal money for 60 days up till April 10, 2023, according to the CBN.
Thus, the general public should dismiss any communication and/or information on this issue that has not been officially disseminated by the Central Bank of Nigeria. Please verify any information from the right sources before publishing, advises the media.
The "false" release was still up on Aisha Buhari's page as of the time this article was filed.
